A tribute to a dear friend on her birthday

This is Johnathan blogging. This is St. Patrick's Day 2010. A special day here in Natalie's household. We have so much to be thankful for. Today, March 17th, we estimate would have been our white boxer, Sydney's, 12th birthday. After a long battle with various ailments, we had to let her go on February 16th. We have so many good memories to remember her -- photos of her with Natalie, our boston terrier "Murphy", ourselves and other family members plus friends from days present and past. Here are a few stories: "Dog ate all the bacon" -- We often let our neighbor Joe watch over the dogs on short weekend trips. One particular time on a weekend getaway, Joe reported to us that he accidentally left the laundry room door open. In the past, Sydney on numerous occasions would reach her paws up on the countertops grabbing ahold of bread, cookies, etc. This particular time she reached up on the dryer top and pulled down a bag of "Beggin Strips" meat treats. When we returned from our getaway, Joe told us in his Italian accent -- "The dog ate all of the bacon. I left door open. She came in and now no more. Alright." "Rollin' in the mud" Before I met Jaymi, she lived in the northern section of town in an apartment. She told me about one time where she took Sydney to a horse training center to see the horses. Well, Sydney, who is really fast on her feet -- especially back in her earlier days in Savannah, GA -- got loose from Jaymi's reach. And next Sydney chased some of the horses and ended up rolling in the manure in the horse training ring. Jaymi told me about a very smelly drive home with Sydney "grinning" ear to ear.

These are just a few samples of many of our special family member. We will remember her snoring at night while pretending to run in place. We will remember her bad breath when in desperate need of a mint. We know that she is resting and smiling upon us, yet chasing squirrels in the world beyond. We miss you Sydney and we will cherish all of the memories and funny stories.
